Obviously it helps to make sure you know what I\u2019m talking about before I go any further! So, blind tapes or \u201cladder tapes\u201d are the alternative to lift cords, both of these things being the method of operation used on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/slatted-blinds\">slatted blinds<\/a> like wooden blinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ladder tapes or lift cords are the parts used to connect the blind\u2019s stack of slats to each other, to keep them tidy and correctly spaced, to allow for the blind to be opened and closed, and to stabilise the slats while they\u2019re rotated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whilst both ladder tapes in blinds and lift cords in blinds perform the same functions, they look quite different to each other, as per my pictures above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The placement of lift cords requires tiny holes to be made in the blind\u2019s slats, which the lift cords then pass through. Visually, you see these thin cords running up through the holes in the blind\u2019s slats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ladder tapes (when chosen) are attached to the external surface of the blind\u2019s slats, connected to and covering the internal lift cords. So what you see in this case is the fabric tape, not the lift cords themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that whilst ladder tapes also have\/connect to lift cords, they\u2019re not simply decorative! Blinds with tapes are always horizontal slatted blinds, also known as Venetian blinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However! Not all types of Venetian blinds are offered with a ladder tape option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-do-wooden-blinds-have-tapes-when-other-types-of-blinds-don-t\">Why do wooden blinds have tapes when other types of blinds don\u2019t?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/white-wooden-blinds-black-tapes-living-room.jpg\" alt=\"White wooden blinds black tapes living room\" class=\"wp-image-7354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/white-wooden-blinds-black-tapes-living-room.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/white-wooden-blinds-black-tapes-living-room-600x306.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/white-wooden-blinds-black-tapes-living-room-768x391.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/white-wooden-blinds-black-tapes-living-room-940x479.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Only slatted blinds can have ladder tapes, although ladder tapes aren&#8217;t always added to all types of slatted blinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/wooden-blinds\/real-wood\/\">real wooden blinds<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/wooden-blinds\/faux-wood\/\">faux-wood blinds<\/a> can be made with ladder tapes. However, Venetian blinds (aluminium venetian blinds) are generally not made with ladder tapes; only lift cords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-do-wooden-blinds-have-to-have-tapes\">Do wooden blinds have to have tapes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-dark-wooden-blinds-without-tapes-in-living-room.jpg\" alt=\"Luxury dark wooden blinds without tapes in living room\" class=\"wp-image-7347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-dark-wooden-blinds-without-tapes-in-living-room.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-dark-wooden-blinds-without-tapes-in-living-room-600x306.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-dark-wooden-blinds-without-tapes-in-living-room-768x391.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-dark-wooden-blinds-without-tapes-in-living-room-940x479.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>No, it\u2019s not obligatory to have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/wooden-blinds\/with-tapes\/\">wooden blinds with tapes<\/a>; whether or not you want them is down to your own personal choice. You can (and many people do) simply have wooden blinds with lift cords, as pictured above. However, as I mentioned before, once you have selected a blind with tapes you can\u2019t remove the tapes later on, as they form part of the blind\u2019s operating mechanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-are-blinds-with-tapes-better\">Are blinds with tapes better?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-light-wooden-blinds-with-tapes-in-modern-sitting-room.jpg\" alt=\"Luxury light wooden blinds with tapes in modern sitting room\" class=\"wp-image-7356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-light-wooden-blinds-with-tapes-in-modern-sitting-room.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-light-wooden-blinds-with-tapes-in-modern-sitting-room-600x306.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-light-wooden-blinds-with-tapes-in-modern-sitting-room-768x391.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.englishblinds.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/luxury-light-wooden-blinds-with-tapes-in-modern-sitting-room-940x479.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very subjective question!
